Preserving our environment & vines
Committed to Nature
Sustainable Vineyard Management
Our priority is to preserve the legacy of centuries-old vineyards for future generations. That is why we do everything possible to preserve the biodiversity of the ecosystem.
Our vineyard has always been managed sustainably. Thanks to good vegetation management and our characteristic climate, with abundant sunshine and dry winds, it is easy to follow the rules of organic viticulture. This way of working, promoted among our winegrowers, is certified across the entire area, except for the most recent plots under control, which are in the process of transition.
We currently manage around 140 plots scattered throughout the region, most of which are surrounded by forests and scrubland. These areas act as protectors of biodiversity, helping to develop and preserve the natural habitat of many animal and plant species. Part of this area comprises 16 hectares of organic pine forest.
Innovative Initiatives
Organic Practices, Energy and Water Management
Sustainability has always been one of our cornerstones at Bodega Numanthia. From the vineyard to the winemaking process, we are proud to say that, as of today, our winery is also certified organic.
To use less energy and more environmentally friendly energy, we installed solar panels on the roof of the winery that are capable of producing virtually all the electricity we need. We strive to reduce waste generation and recycle as much as possible.
All our efforts were rewarded with the ISO 14001 certification in 2019, an environmental management system. This recognition attests to our commitment to more environmentally friendly management.
IBERVITIS: a polyclonal selection project
IBERVITIS is an international cooperation project developed within the framework of the EUREKA Multilateral Cooperation Program, in which Spanish and Portuguese companies participate with the aim of promoting polyclonal selection methodology in vineyards on the Iberian Peninsula using seven key varieties in Spanish and Portuguese viticulture: Albariño, Arinto, Godello, Sercial, Rabo de Ovelha, Rufete, and Tempranillo.
The consortium promoting this project is made up of Spanish and Portuguese entities. It also has the support and collaboration of the Higher Institute of Agronomy of the University of Lisbon.
